Super Eagles on Saturday begin their Group G opener of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on a winning note with a 2-0 victory against Chad in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

The first half ended with no goals, but a few minutes into the second half Nigeria broke the deadlock after Gbolahan Salami's stunning strike in the 63rd minute.

Odion Ighalo was later pulled down in the penalty area by the Chadians, and the Watford FC of England goal poacher converted the spot kick to give Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead in the epic encounter.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was the biggest casualty for Nigeria, the Lazio player was sent off for shoving after a spot kick had been awarded.
