"For the opposition PDP to have chosen an underperformed, corrupt, mentally lazy and undemocratic Governor like Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to lead such a sensitive and important group like Governors' Forum" shows its lacking in men and women of proven integrity", he said of Governor Mimiko.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Monday lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for choosing Governor Olusegun Mimiko as the Chairman of the Governor's Forum.

A statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Party, Omo'ba Abayomi Adesanya, and obtained by a SaharaReporters correspondent in Akure, described the emergence of Mimiko as a mark of failure for the PDP.

Adesanya said such emergence of an "underperformed" Governor ‎signals the end of the road for the umbrella Party, which had turned out to be a formidable opposition Party since it lost the control of power in the last general election.

He wondered ‎how a Party that claimed to regained power from the ruling APC would chose such a "corrupt, mentally lazy and undemocratic" Governor like Mimiko to head its Governor's Forum.

"For the opposition PDP to have chosen an underperformed, corrupt, mentally lazy and undemocratic Governor like Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to lead such a sensitive and important group like Governors' Forum" shows its lacking in men and women of proven integrity", he said.

The Party queried how the embattled governor who had his hand full of corruption would be hand-picked as the Chairman of the PDP noting that it's an end for road for the Party.

"Was Mr. Mimiko given the Chairmanship because of his illusionary achievements in Ondo State despite failure to conduct local government election for almost seven (7) years; mismanagement and failure to account for the State funds and allocations; the moribund of almost all the institutions and parastatals in the State under his leadership; and the running of the State like an emperor? This is an end of the road for the Party (PDP),” he added.

The statement added that although the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) recognizes the role of constructive criticism in the modern democracy but expressed doubt if the defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could make up the needed opposition Party in the country.

"The APC recognizes the role of a viable, proactive and constructive opposition in a democracy, but the present PDP formation and the leftovers cannot provide the needed opposition our country's democracy requires at this crucial time.

However, it urged other political Parties in the state to wake up from their slumber and provide a formidable opposition for the country in the interest of the people,” the statement read in part.

‎The statement continued saying, "it is now more imperative than ever, for all other mushroom political parties to come out of their shells to provide a formidable opposition for the betterment of the Nigerian people and in the interest of our hard earn democracy."

The statement further assured Nigerians that the APC would deliver on its electoral promises and abide by the thrust of the party.

"Although, with or without any viable and mentally alert proactive opposition, APC would deliver on its electoral promises and keep to every word of the Party's manifesto", the statement said.
