TIME TO QUIT

June 26, 2015

Prince Abubakar Audu is by no small means a household name in the politics of Kogi State, know within and outside the state as the prince of Niger. So far so good, he is the best civilian governor that would come out of kogi state, haven left legacies that are still standing. He is easily remembered for his flamboyant dressing and electrifying style of governance with panacea. However, Prince Abubakar Audu has paid his dues and has come of age and as assumed naturally the position of an elder and the position of a kingmaker by length of time, antecedent and experience in politics, just like the late Olusola Saraki of blessed memory.

In 1977, Olusola Saraki was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly that produced the 1979 constitution. In 1979 he was elected a Senator of the Second Republic, and became Senate Leader. In 1983 Saraki was re-elected into the Senate on the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) platform, He became a National Leader and member of the Board of Trustees of the All People’s Party (APP) in 1998 but switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In Kwara politics, he has been the kingmaker, installing and removing, his words are law, he is worshiped like a god. Can the same be said of Prince Abuakar Audu? Isn’t that the position he ought to be occupying in Kogi state? It is still not too late to cliche such an esteemed status.

It is believed in many quarters that, haven garnered vast experience in politics and haven come of age, when strength has waned physically and mentally, he should take the back sit to support a credible, tested, trusted younger, mentally alert, educationally grounded and intelligently sound and internationally connected young man who is fit and capable, while he should direct behind the scene. If the saying “youth are the leaders of tomorrow” is anything to go by, now is the time for recycled and refurbished elders to quite the scene!

There is an adage that says in my place and I quote “ The elders cannot be in the market place and watch a new born baby’s head bend on his mother’s back” this simply means, elders are to guide and advice in situations that need the experienced touch. Haven come of age, Prince Abubakar Audu should quit competitive politics and champion the course of a more robust and developed Kogi State. Another adage says “When a certain idol called shigidi wants to make a mess of itself, it will ask and cry vociferously to be put in the rain to bath” because rain renders its potency useless and powerless! Prince Abubakar Audu should jettison the call by some “fictitious” character, clamoring for his coming, as there are none and even if there are characters doing such, they are people looking for what to eat. The time the people really cried for you have passed! That was when according to Sen. Dino Melaye, “Scientific rigging was used against you” The bible says, for everything under the sun, THERE IS A TIME AND SEASON, inability to read times and season makes one go home empty handed from the farm. You should therefore support one of his kind, ALHAJI JIBRIN ISAH ECHOCHO and retain the esteemed position of a king maker. Toe the line of history and make history sir.
