SaharaReporters can confirm that the 19th Battalion has abducted Lawrence Eyaufe and Ejiro Efetobor from a protest in in Ethiope West Local Government Area (LGA). Reports from the area say that the military forcefully broke up the protests, and chased residents away from public places. Mr. Eyaufe and Mr. Efetobor were taken during the military siege of the area.

The protest was to bring awareness to the military’s abuses against the residents and the extrajudicial murder of Benson Ogedegbe last week. The military, under the direction of Lt. Col. Umar, have been working with criminal gangs in the Delta State area providing protection and support for kidnapping, ransom, murder for hire, and oil bunkering.

The military has refused to answer any of SaharaReporters’ questions and refuse to explain whether an investigation into the conduct of the 19th Battalion is ongoing.
