THE CENTER CANNOT HOLD, THINGS MAY FALL APART IN KOGI PDP

June 30, 2015

In the setting of Things Fall Apart, the main character without allusion is the mighty Okonkwo. Strong, powerful and influential. It is therefore on these premises that he became the bride of all. Our dear party (PDP) is standing in the place of Umofia (okonkwo;s village) and Okonkwo the great is standing in place of the present Executive Governor of Kogi State. I urge the Party (PDP) therefore, not to make the mistakes that Okonkwo made on behalf of umofia that made THINGS FALL APART.

Okonkwo is selected by the elders to be the guardian of Ikemefuna, a boy taken by the village as a peace settlement between Umuofia and another village after Ikemefuna's father killed an Umuofian woman. The boy lives with Okonkwo's family and Okonkwo grows fond of him. The boy looks up to Okonkwo and considers him a second father. The Oracle of Umuofia eventually pronounces that the boy must be killed. Ezeudu, the oldest man in the village, warns Okonkwo that he should have nothing to do with the murder because it would be like killing his own child. But to avoid seeming weak and feminine to the other men of the village, Okonkwo participates in the murder of the boy despite the warning from the old man. In fact, Okonkwo himself strikes the killing blow even as Ikemefuna begs his "father" for protection. For many days after killing Ikemefuna, Okonkwo feels guilty and saddened by this. Shortly after Ikemefuna's death, things begin to fall apart for Okonkwo.

Kogites have earnestly believed in the party PDP, which produced Capt Idris Wada and who despite the abracadabraic entrance into the political foray was accepted by all and trusted to deliver. The child ikemefuna represents the good people of kogi state, who have been looking unto the party for a saving governor who unfortunately has shown less interest in the well being of his people that look earnestly unto him for succor. The people have been dealt severs blows. It is an open secret that the state is in a state of comatose! Nothing is working. While civil servants who form majority of the electorates are suffering without 2 months salaries, the newly elected members of the state house of assembly have been paid full salaries with other benefits! But when it concerns the civil servants, the governor will say “GO LOCK YOUR OFFICE AND BRING THE KEYS” without remorse.

With the Buharization of every election in these past months, I think it is pertinent the PDP ask it self these questions:
1) Does Capt Wada have the political will and sagacity to deliver for the party at the polls?
2) Is our governor still popular among the people?
3) Are the people willing to stick out their necks for this man who has been nonchalant to their welfare but takes his own welfare very seriously?

We all know without deceit that the answers are NO; It is based on this that I urge the party and its members to have a deep consultation with stake holder and queue behind Alhaji Jibrin Isah ECHOCHO, he has the popularity, he has the experience and the machineries are routing for him and he has the ability to deliver, failure to do this, I SEE THINGS FALLING APART FOR THE PARTY AT THE INCOMING POLLS.
