An elections tribunal upheld on Wednesday the election of Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC), definitively striking down the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Emeka Ihedioha contesting the results of the April 11 governorship elections.
Mr. Ihedioha, previously the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, had approached the Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in challenge of Governor Okorocha’s victory. Mr. Ihedioha alleged mass irregularities and non-compliance of the election with the Electoral Act.
The tribunal, in its ruling, disagreed with the petitioner, striking down the case. With the tribunal's final ruling on the April 11 gubernatorial election, the coast is clear for the incumbent governor to complete the second term of his tenure in office.
