At least 12 worshipers have been killed in set of twin suicide attacks on a mosque in Borno State today, according to a local official speaking with SaharaReporters.
Two male suicide bombers, pretending to be mosque worshippers, made their way into a mosque at 5:30am in Gubio town, the headquarters of Gubio local government in Borno State, killing at least 12 worshipers and injuring dozens of others.
A local government official told SaharaReporters by phone that ''at 5:30am this morning, when people gathered to pray, two Boko Haram militants forced their way into the mosque and blew themselves up along with a group of worshipers. At least 14 people died, including the two bombers.”
Babagana Modu, a native of Gubio who resides in Maiduguri, told SaharaReporters that two of his relations were among the victims in the tragedy today.
''They killed 12 people and inflicted injuries on several others, two of my relations are among those who were killed by suicide bombers,'' Babagana Modu said.
Gubio is 94 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, and has suffered attacks from Boko Haram earlier this year.
