Making the announcement in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, the movement described Elvis in glowing terms.

“He was always fiercely passionate in fighting for the rescue of our #ChibokGirls and many more national issues,” it said.  “He was principled and always stood for what he believed in. He spoke for the voiceless and defended the defenceless. He fought hard for a better

Nigeria. His deep intellect and unique perspectives reinvigorated our advocacy at critical times. He was selfless.”

The announcement explained that Elvis died of ill-health at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi at about 2 pm., on a day that was exactly 18 months since the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls.

“Today Elvis may be no more alive, but he would forever be remembered for all he did for others. He made tremendous difference in the lives of his fellow human beings. The value and worth of life may not necessarily be in longevity but in impact, what difference we make in the lives of our fellow human beings.”

#BringBackOurGirls said it was inspired by Elvis’ life example. “He will be sorely missed, but surely never forgotten as his legacies will continue to speak,” the statement stressed.  “This departure challenges us to do even much more to achieve the cause for which he committed his life.”

The special sit out, which will commence at 4.30 pm, will be followed by a candle light procession and laying of flowers at the same venue at 7.00 pm.

Elvis is survived by his parents, siblings and other family members, the #BringBackOurGirls family said, expressing its being consoled by a life that was very well lived.

“From God we are and to Him we shall return. For every soul must taste death,” it said.
