In a press release the National Population Commission (NPC) announced it has begun preparing for the 2016 national census.
The NPC announced that the training of its staff for the First Phase of the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) is already underway. According to Chairman of the Commission, Eze Duruiheom, the EAD will be, “the foundation on which the entire proposed census architecture stands.”
Mr. Duruiheom explained that the purpose of the EAD is to divide the country into various zones to facilitate the census process as whole. The Chairman appealed to local government councils, traditional institutions, and communities to aid the NPC in their efforts to complete the EAD.
Training on the State and Local Government Area (LGA) levels have been scheduled as well. The training, which will last two weeks, will emphasize the development of total Geographic Information System (GIS) compliance across the country necessary to gather accurate census data.
According to Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Almakura, the 2016 census will, “put to rest the controversy over the previous census.”
