The Director of the Search and Rescue Department of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Air Commodore Charles Otegbede, disclosed that 19 people lost their lives following the gory GSM market blast in Kano.
Commodore Otegbede made the disclosure on Thursday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano while presenting drugs and other material to the hospitals treating victims of the blast. Numerous people sustained various degrees of injury in the blast.
According to him, NEMA function is to quickly respond to emergency situations, adding that the Federal Government considered the Kano blast to be a serious attack.
The commodore, who represented the Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi, stated that the success recorded in rescuing victims of the blast was a result of effective collaboration between NEMA officials on the ground and other helpers.
He stressed that the rescue operation would not have been successful without the government's commitment.
