THE INJUSTICE BEING COMMITTED AGAINST THE 200 LEVEL UNILAG PROSPECTIVE PREMEDICAL STUDENTS

February 7, 2016

This is to bring to the notice of the general public, lovers of education and justice the injustice that is imminent in the faculty of science, University of Lagos.

We were admitted into the school and given the condition to further get admitted into the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba which was clearly stated in the handbook given by the faculty of science to be 50-50-50 in the biological, physical and chemical science respectively and 2.00 CGPA but to our surprise and dismay, three weeks to the second semester exam, a meeting was called by the sub Dean of the faculty to tell us that they will use another criteria i.e. GP but meanwhile the G.P is not known.

After the second semester exam, results were pasted, cumulative GP was calculated and parted but no list. We started hearing rumors of using GP of 4.5, 4.1, 3.5 etc. but was discarded as rumors.

Just three days ago, 1st of February, 2016, the list was finally released and our fears confirmed. Students in Medicine and Surgery, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Dentistry, Physiotherapy who made the 50-50-50 requirement were not admitted. Those in radiography, pharmacology and physiology departments who met the requirements (2.0 CGPA) were also not offered admission.
Some students with GP less than 3.5 were thrown to other department they never bargained or applied for.
We hereby plead with the general public to help fight our cause and make our voices to be heard.

What we are demanding of them are:
1. The “rules” cannot be changed in the middle of the game
2. The criteria be reversed to agreed and signed agreement of 50-50-50 and 2.0
3. All students who made the initial criteria be offered admission.
4. The school should come out clean about the quota for direct entry (DE) and UTME (Regular Students).
5. The school must give their unreserved apology to the affected students.
Signed,
Concerned students.
