The hearing chairman, Zakari Mohammed from Kwara State, told the media that the committee would take “appropriate steps” to make sure that Mrs. Madueke complies with their requests.
The embattled former Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, did not appear today at the Ad Hoc committee hearing of the House of Representatives investigating corruption and theft in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The request for Mrs. Madueke’s appearance was made on February 23rd according to reports.
The hearing chairman, Zakari Mohammed from Kwara State, told the media that the committee would take “appropriate steps” to make sure that Mrs. Madueke complies with their requests.
The committee summoned her in connection to crude oil swaps fraud. She was summoned alongside the former Managing Director of the Pipelines Product Market Company, Haruna Momoh.
Mr. Momoh also did not attend the hearing, according to the Punch newspaper. Instead, Mr. Momoh sent his younger brother Suleiman Momoh in his place to tell the representatives that he was not feeling well.
Mrs. Madueke was arrested late last year for financial crimes in the United Kingdom by the National Crime Agency (NCA). SaharaReporters’ investigation revealed that the UK authorities have been interested in properties associated with Mrs. Madueke as possibly being from the proceeds of financial crime.
Last month, Mrs. Madueke’s husband was questioned in Abuja in connection to financial crime allegations.
