It was gathered that the gang was chased by police officers for a few hours after they invaded the home of the trader and boutique owner Ejike Agodo.

Sources revealed that the police were late in their arrival at the crime scene due to their limited knowledge of the area.

It was also disclosed that the armed gang ran into a patrol vehicle while escaping from the scene.

According to the source, the response team accosted the gang, who rode in a commercial tricycle known as Keke NAPE, along the Oxbow Lake area and engaged them in a shoot out.

“One of the robbers was shot dead, while two others were arrested,” the source stated.

Police learned that the leader of the gang is an Epie indigene and resident of Amarata Community.

Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Astimin Butwat, confirmed the arrest of the suspects and recovery of four locally made pistols.

“Yes, some suspects were arrested but I don’t known their identities yet,” he disclosed.

It will be recalled that the shooting and killing of Ejike Agodo, the trader and boutique owner, had on Monday sparked a protest march by traders in the State. Mr. Agodo was murdered at around 3:30pm on Monday just a few hours before his planned trip overseas to purchase stock for his boutique.

It was learned that the gunmen who invaded the Amarata residence of Mr. Agodo on Overcomer Road demanded money from their victim.
