At the time of reporting, the cause of his death is unknown.

The singer had postponed a concert in Atlanta on April 7 after experiencing flu-like symptoms but was able to make up the performance last week.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince escalated to stardom in the late ‘70s with singles like “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” from his self-titled debut album. His unique fusion of funk, rock, and dance coupled with his flamboyant and colorful style proved to be a hit with audiences across the globe.

Prince’s popularity continued to soar throughout the ‘80s with the release of classics like Dirty Mind, 1999 and Purple Rain, which sold over 13 million copies in the US and spent 24 consecutive weeks as the best-selling record in the country.

In the ‘90s, after a dispute with his record label, Prince changed his name to a symbol that could not be pronounced. He then became known as “The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.” Prince continued to release albums throughout the ‘90s to varying degrees of success until his 2004 comeback album Musicology, which earned five Grammy nominations and reached number 3 on the charts.

Prince’s last album, HITnRUN Phase One, was released in September 2015. His discography included thirty-nine studio album and five film soundtracks.
