Ibadan Chiefs Set To Sue Gov. Ajimobi, Attorney General Over New Olubadan

The Seriki chiefs have expressed their readiness to sue Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, the state Attorney-General and Olubadan-in-Council over the emergence of Oba Saliu Adetunji as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The head of Seriki, Chief Bayo Oyediji, spoke yesterday in Ibadan while fielding questions from journalists during the commemoration of his 40th anniversary as the Ekefa Seriki of  Ibadan, describing the installation of Oba Adetunji as 'illegal and unjust'.

Oyediji also showcased his certificate, which was signed by the Sole Administrator of Ibadan District Council, J A Akinbami, on May 10, 1976 after he (Oyediji) was promoted from Mogaji Ile Eesubiyi to Ekefa Seriki by the late Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe.

"I remain the senior chief in Ibadan land and ought to be installed as the new Olubadan. I am the first to be installed as a traditional member in Ibadan and I have been playing my role for the development of Ibadan since I became a chief.

"I am not a violent person but just concerned about the peace and progress of this land. After we have taken the Olubadan-in-council to court to stop the promotion of any chief and obtain a court injunction to that effect, some people still ganged up against my installation as the new Olubadan and went ahead to install Chief Adetunji that met me as a chief as the new Olubadan.

"We also wrote to the governor and attorney- general of the state not to install anybody as the Olubadan unless they obey the court order, but the governor did not reply us and went ahead to install a new Olubadan.

"I have been directed by the Seriki chiefs to sue the governor and the state attorney general over the installation. We would not be violent about it but we want justice and we shall follow the rule of law. We shall continue to stand on the court course, injunction and the agreement we have with the Olubadan-in-Council."

It would be recalled that Oba Adetunji was installed on February 12, 2016 by the governor after the demise Oba Samuel Odulana on January 19, 2016.
