Kano Murder: Police Arrest Two Key Suspects, IGP Promises Swift Justice

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects for alleged  involvement  in the murder of Mrs. Bridget Abahime in Kano. The deceased was beheaded by a mob, which claimed she committed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed. The suspects are Dauda Ahmed and Subeiru Abubakar.

The arrest of the duo was announced in a statement signed by ACP Olabisi Kolawole, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

"‎It is confirmed that the Kano State Police Command has succeeded in arresting two key suspects in connection with the unfortunate incident. Those arrested include Dauda Ahmed and Subeiru Abubakar," the statement disclosed.‎        

It added that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase and the entire  Police family  consider the incident  condemnable. The Inspector-General of Police, according to the statement, however, has  urged Nigerians to be calm and offered assurances to the family of the deceased and the general public  that justice will  be done in the matter.

"In order to ensure a diligent and professional investigation, the Inspector General of Police has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in- charge of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) to deploy the Homicide Section of the Department to immediately take over the investigation of the case and ensure a meticulous investigation and speedy prosecution of the arrested suspects.

"The Inspector General of Police has also directed the Commissioner of Police of Kano State to sustain the community engagement actions, which he is currently initiating with all strategic security stakeholders and community leaders in the State with a view to dousing the tension being generated by the condemnable incident," the statement added.

To prevent an outbreak of violence and assist in the hunt for the remaining  suspects,  detachments of mobile and conventional police as well as the intelligence officers, the statement explained, have been deployed around Kano State.                         

The FPRO advised members of the public against capitalising on the incident to threaten national security, adding that the police will provide updates to the public as the investigations progress.
