Gunmen Assassinate Lawmaker In Oyo State

Gunmen have killed Gideon Aremu, representative of Oorelope constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly. The incident happened about 11 pm on Friday July 1st 2016 at his residence in Alakia, Egbeda local government area in Oyo state.

The three gunmen reportedly trailed him home and opened fire on him as he was coming out of his car. It was reported that Mr. Aremu had left the governor's residence in Bodija where political leaders gathered to break their fast.

He was confirmed dead at Toun Hospital along Iwo road. Adekunle Ajisebutu, the spokesman of the Oyo police command, confirmed the incident, saying: “I can confirm that the incident happened late yesterday, and the police have swung into action,” he told The Cable news.

He was the Chairman of the Oyo State Assembly’s Committee on Information, Public Relations, and Security and member of the ruling party the All Progressive Congress  (APC).

He was dragged to the tribunal and later to the appeal court to defend his seat in the state assembly. Justice Samuel Oseji upheld his victory as ruled by the Legislative Election Petitions Tribunal for Oyo state.
