Fallout Of N4.2b Fraud: Gov. Ambode Nominates Subair As Lagos Internal Revenue Service Chairman

Mr. Ogunsanwo, who headed the agency since September 2015, was unceremoniously kicked out the agency following a discovery that he had fiddled with the agency’s N4.2 billion.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State nominated Ayodele Hamzat Subair as the new Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) on Monday.

In a letter read on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Ambode said it had become expedient to find a suitable replacement for Folarin Ogunsanwo.

Mr. Ogunsanwo, who headed the agency since September 2015, was unceremoniously kicked out the agency following a discovery that he had fiddled with the agency’s N4.2 billion.

Born on 21 May, 1960, Mr. Subair holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the Metropolitan University of Manchester, United Kingdom and a Master’s Degree in business administration from the University of Lagos.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a member of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN).

Mr. Subair has over 34 years of working experience. He started with Price WaterHouse Chartered Accountants before venturing into private practice in 1987 with the Hamzat Subair and Co. Chartered Accountants, where he served as Managing Partner.

He had also worked as the pioneer director of the Lagos State Lotteries Board and various international agencies such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC)

Mr. Ambode said that Mr. Subair’s presentation to the House of Assembly for confirmation was in conformity with Section 2 of the Lagos State Revenue Administration Law (2006).

In a related development, Mr. Ambode approved the appointment of Abiodun Dabiri as the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). Mr. Dabiri, born on January 2, 1964, holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in civil engineering from the University of Lagos.

He is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN).

Mr. Dabiri joined LAMATA in 2008 and was until his appointment the Head of Procurement/Operational Contract Manager for the Agency.
