Re: Where Gani Would Have Stood By Taofeek Alao

During the military dictatorship of General Mohammadu Buhari between January  1984-Aug 1985, Gani Fawehinmi supported the federal government in prosecuting the war against corruption. Gani appeared to defend clients in the special military tribunals set up by General Buhari to try corrupt politicians. As Gani defied the Nigerian Bar Association which ordered lawyers to boycott the military tribunals his name was registered in the Black Book of the lawyers.

Under the Obasanjo civilian regime, Gani and Femi Falana were the greatest defenders of the Ribadu-led EFCC  and the Akanbi-led icpc in the fight against corruption. So if Gani were alive, today he would have given kudos to the Efcc for charging corrupt lawyers to court. Such corrupt lawyers who are facing trial are Ricky Tarfa SAN, Joe Nwokobie SAN, and Ebun Adegboruwa. If Gani were alive, today he would have fully supported the anti-corruption war of the Buhari regime. So let no one use this column to distort the record of Gani's life and times.

Taofeek Alao.
