“We know fully well that some disgruntled PDP leaders that are loyal to Barrister Eyitayo Jegede carried out the wicked act at the campaign office secretariat of Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim located on Oyemekun Road in Akure.”
Some heavyweight leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State sponsored hoodlums that attacked the campaign office of the controversial business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim, in Akure on Saturday night, a reliable source has confirmed to SaharaReporters.
This source that pleaded anonymity due to the ongoing investigation over the case told our undercover reporter on Monday night that these leaders were sympathetic to the ambition of Eyitayo Jegede as the PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming poll.
The source claimed that these ‘moneybag leaders’ were also against the candidacy of Mr. Ibrahim, who has been parading himself as the authentic governorship candidate of the factional PDP in Ondo State using court cases for his claims.
SaharaReporters can authoritatively report that this same impeccable source is currently working with some security agencies in the State to fish out the main ‘ringleader’ responsible for carrying out the wicked act at the Oyemekun Road campaign office of Mr. Ibrahim, a man known for his shoddy business deals.
“We know fully well that some disgruntled PDP leaders that are loyal to Barrister Eyitayo Jegede carried out the wicked act at the campaign office secretariat of Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim located on Oyemekun Road in Akure,” the source disclosed.
“The security agencies have been able to establish this fact which I am revealing to you, but they wouldn’t want to disclose the level of their investigation because one of the leaders caught in this act is very close to Mr. Governor (Olusegun Mimiko).
“What they actually did was that they employed the services of some popular thugs and street urchins by giving them funds to carry out the attack on Saturday night, and the job was perfectly done to the taste of their pay masters.
“I am not here to blackmail anyone or raise sympathy for any politician in the State, but we must nail the truth on the head. Even Mr. Jegede himself might not know about this wicked job, but I can confirm to you that it was carried out by people who want him to be the next governor at all costs. These same people have been destroying other posters of other political parties’ candidates on the streets of the State,” the whistleblower said.
Residents in the vicinity of the campaign office who spoke to SaharaReporters correspondents confirmed that gun-wielding hoodlums stormed the building in “annoyance” and destroyed the billboards and flags mounted at its entrance.
A party official alleged that the hoodlums stormed the building at about 8 p.m. in a Toyota bus branded with Eyitayo Jegede posters and went on a rampage, destroying the building.
Yemi Akintomide, Director of Media and Publicity of the Biyi Poroye-led faction of the party, confirmed the attack in an electronic statement issued to journalists in Akure.
Mr. Akintomide described the attack on the campaign office as barbaric and a dangerous way of playing politics in the State.
He claimed that the rampaging political thugs destroyed all the iron poles with the banner of the PDP flags installed at the front of the campaign office.
“The hoodlums also pulled down and vandalized the campaign billboard of Barrister Ibrahim mounted on top of the one-story building but nobody was attacked, as the perpetrators of the drastic act came in the night after occupants of the office had left and the structure was under lock and key.
“We are also aware of the evil plans of the other faction of the PDP in the State as we go into the campaign proper. But we at the Prince Biyi Poroye-led PDP in the State have been preaching peace and non-violence, leaving the court to do justice to the cases before it, while we continue politicking and preparing for the election,” Mr. Akintomide said.
However, the Eyitayo Volunteer Group (EVG) denied the attack on the office of the PDP faction in the State through a statement officially issued on its social media page.
The group described all the allegations as untrue and attempts to drag Mr. Eyitayo Jegede's name in the mud.
“This is to say to the general public that the rumor making the rounds to the effect that the hooligans who attacked Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim's campaign office along Oyemekun Road, Akure yesterday drove in Eyitayo Jegede's campaign vehicle.
“The purveyors of this story are wicked minds who are out to stain the good image and intents of Eyitayo Jegede.
“The story is not only untrue, it's also ill-conceived and a desperate political attempt at maligning the good name of our principal, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede,” the group said.
Some security officials that have been speaking with SaharaReporters revealed that investigation into the destruction has commenced.
