Soccer Fan Stabbed In Kano Over Heavy Celtic Defeat By Barcelona

September 27, 2016

A football fan has been stabbed in the stomach in Kano following an argument over the recent European Champions League match between Barcelona of Spain, and the Scottish champions, Celtic.

Barcelona won the September 13 contest with seven unreplied goals.

Samson Akase, 20, who was stabbed by another man identified simply as Azubike, said the events leading to the tragedy began when Azubike began to insult him following the loss of his favorite team, Celtic to Barcelona.

According to him, fellow football fans at the scene promptly intervened and successfully pacified the two of them, after which they dispersed from the scene.

Two days after that event, he said he was alerted by a co-tenant of his that someone wanted him outside.

Akase, who said he had been asleep when he was called, said he arrived outside and surprisingly came face to face with Azubike, not realizing that the man was still upset over their altercation over the match.  He said Azubike immediately pulled out a dagger from his pocket, stabbed him in the stomach and fled the scene.

According to him, he was then rushed by his neighbors to Gogoruwa Hospital for medical attention, and later to St Luke's Hospital in Nomansland.

“My stomach was stitched, but [I was] discharged two days later and as I speak with you, I am still feeling intense pains on the spot where the doctor stitched and was mandated to report daily to the hospital for check-up and further treatment.''

Akase said that someone in the area reported the incident to Nomansland Police station.  Azubike was then arrested but was subsequently released on bail and ordered to report to the police station daily for further investigation.

Reacting, Akase’s mother, Mrs. Patricia Akase, said she was not interested in any legal action against Azubike, as she was grateful to God for sparing the life of her son.
