Bayelsa PDP Lambasts APC Over Alleged Plot To Bribe Supreme Court Justices

October 24, 2016

The state PDP lambasted APC in the state for its fresh threat to expose alleged moves by the party to bribe justices of the Supreme Court to get a favorable judgment in the governorship election appeal pending before the apex court.

Verbal warfare escalated between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State on Monday.

The state PDP lambasted APC in the state for its fresh threat to expose alleged moves by the party to bribe justices of the Supreme Court to get a favorable judgment in the governorship election appeal pending before the apex court.

It described the threat as an act of mischief, saying Bayelsans and indeed all Nigerians, as usual, would not be hoodwinked.

Bayelsa State chairman of the PDP, Hon. Cleopas Moses, described the allegation as outlandish ‎and coming from a party that is yet to get its house together since the January 10, 2016, declaration of Governor Seriake Dickson as the winner of the governorship poll.

He described the APC as hallucinating over its desire to regain Bayelsa State, and dared the opposition party to name persons the PDP allegedly engaged as facilitators to transfer the said funds to the justices, adding that it is only with verifiable facts that the world could believe such story.

"This is another smear campaign against our party, another lie from the pit of hell aimed at diverting attention from the original plan ‎of our traducers. But as always, it will not sell because it lacks every attractive ingredient."

Moses described the APC as having become synonymous with bribing judges, citing the case of Justice Inyang Okoro who accused a former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Transport of attempting to bribe him.

The PDP chairman said: “Rotimi Amaechi and Chief Umana, all of the APC, were accused by Justice Okoro of the‎ Supreme Court of making moves to bribe him before the Rivers, Abia, and Akwa Ibom judgments.

“Also Justice Sylvester Ngwuta has accused Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu of trying to pervert justice in the governorship elections in Ekiti, Ebonyi and Rivers states. These men are all of the APC. So if their colleagues in Bayelsa are accusing us, it shows you a desperation on their part to cover up something.”

According to him, the PDP believes in the Judiciary and is certain that it convincingly won the governorship election, and so it does not need to bribe anyone to influence the judgment of the apex court.

The victory of the PDP at the lower courts is enough reason to show that it will not change at the Supreme Court, he added, calling on the APC and its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, to move on rather than dream of coming back to govern the same people who have rejected them.

Moses described the attack on the personality of the Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, as uncalled for. He advised APC members in the state to seek a lasting solution to the crisis rocking their party.
