President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump for winning the United States presidential election.
In a statement issued by Femi Adesina, Mr. Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the president congratulated Mr. Trump and expressed his desire to cooperate with him in matters relating to security, counterterrorism, economic growth, democracy, and anti-corruption.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates President-elect, Donald Trump, on his victory in the United States presidential election,” the statement read.
“I look forward to working together with President-elect Trump to build on and strengthen relations between Nigeria and the USA,” the president said on his Twitter page.
Mr. Buhari said he “extends his good wishes to [Donald Trump] on the onerous task of leading the world’s strongest economy.”
He also commended American citizens for conducting a fair, peaceful, and democratic election.
