VP Osinbajo Panel Begins Probe Of Suspended Senior Officials, Oke And Babachir

The Presidential Committee constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe allegations of impropriety against Director General of Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr. Ayo Oke, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir David Lawal, has commenced work.

Oke and Lawal are being investigated in connection with the discovery of a large amount of foreign currencies in an Ikoyi, Lagos apartment as well as legal and due process violations respectively.

A statement by Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, said on Saturday that the committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo,  would invite all relevant officials and individuals connected to the cases involving the two government top officers who were suspended earlier in the week pending investigation by the Osinbajo committee.

"All the committee's proceedings will be closed to the public to avoid speculations and to allow full disclosures that will enhance the proceedings," the statement said while assuring that the committee would be diligent in its work whose report would be submitted to President Buhari in two weeks.

The three-man probe committee which has Osinbajo as head also has Justice Minister Abubakar Malami and National Security Adviser Major General (Rtd) Babagana Munguno as members.
