Borno State: Boko Haram Ambush Police Convoy, Kill One

According to the source, the ambush happened about 10 km away from Maiduguri while the police were on their way to Lassa for the funeral of a police sergeant attached to the University of Maiduguri.

Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a police convoy in Borno State on Tuesday, killing at least one officer in the subsequent gun duel and leaving 16 policewomen missing, a police source told SaharaReporters. 

According to the source, the ambush happened about 10 km away from Maiduguri while the police were on their way to Lassa for the funeral of a police sergeant attached to the University of Maiduguri.

He said they received a report that their personnel had been ambushed near Molai.

"One was shot dead, two sustained gun wounds [and were] brought to the [University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital] and 16 are missing now," the source told our correspondent.

Spokesperson to the Nigerian police, Jimoh Moshood, confirmed the report but he said there is only one police personnel missing. He added that rescue operations are ongoing.
