Herdmen Killings: President Buhari Arrives Benue State

President Muhammadu Buhari has landed in Benue state, in continuation of his condolence visits to states where there have been killings and other forms of violence as a results of herdsmen attacks, insurgency and militancy in the past few months.

The President has visited Taraba and Pleteau states. 

The President arrived Benue through the Makurdi airport at about 10:45am in continuation of the trip on Monday.

The President is expected to meet with the Benue state governor  and other stakeholders later in the day.

The president would also be paying a visit to the Tor-Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, the military Exercise Cat Race Camp and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in Gbajimba, Guma LGA.

Security presence has been beefed up across Benue 24 hours to the president’s visit as heavily armed security personnel were deployed to mount strategic locations and points in the state capital, Makurdi.

Police helicopters was also deployed for aerial surveillance while armoured tanks and vehicles could also be seen on patrol to intensify security in the state.

Attacks by herdsmen in Benue state have resulted in hundreds of deaths while thousands of residents have been displaced.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that two officers of the Nigeria Police Force died in a gun battle with suspected herdsmen, prior to President Buhari’s visit to Benue state.

The herdsmen, according to sources, were on a mission to attack a church before they were intercepted by the Police which resulted in a gun duel between the herdsmen and police.
