Increase In Lagos Land Use Charge Outrageous, House Speaker Accepts

Speaking at the public hearing to amend the Lagos State Land Use Charge (Amendment) Law 2018, the speaker representing Agege in the House of Assembly, asserted that the percentage of increase of the charge by the state is ‘outrageous'

The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa on Tuesday accepted that the review amount payable for land use charge as carried out by lawmakers in the new law on the issue is outrageous. 

Speaking at the public hearing to amend the Lagos State Land Use Charge (Amendment) Law 2018, the speaker representing Agege in the House of Assembly, asserted that the percentage of increase of the charge by the state is ‘outrageous’.

He said, “What we have presented might be outrageous, but I want you to consider the state and our generation.”

He, however, called on Lagosians to accept the amended charge.

The Land Use Charge is an annual charge rate on a percentage of the market value of a property.

There have been controversies over the amendment of the law which according to some stakeholders, increased charges by as much as 400 percent.
