Five persons, including four female suicide bombers, on Friday, were killed by explosions from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) detonated by the bombers at Muna Zawuya village in Mafa Local Government Area on the outskirts of Maiduguri. A total of 13 persons were also injured in the explosions.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the spokesperson of Borno State Police Command, Mr. Edet Okon. According to the statement, the incident happened at 9.49 am, when the bombers detonated the explosives on their bodies.
The injured victims, added the statement, were taken to a hospital where they are said to be responding to treatment.
It added that the Borno State Police Command dispatched officers of its Counter-Terrorism Unit, State Anti-Robbery Squad and Explosive Ordinance Department to sweep the place and make the environment safe. Normalcy, added the statement, has returned to the area.
