There was serious tension on Monday at the operational of the Italian Oil giant, Eni Also known as Nigerian Agip Oil Company NAOC, as some thugs hired by the company came down heavily with violence and dispersed some local contractors engaged by the company on surveillance security, logistics and cleanup who were in peaceful demonstration demanding for their “rights” at the premises of the company located at Aya-Gologo,Port -Harcourt,Rivers State .
The protesters Armed with placards with inscriptions of such as “Pay Our Contractors” “We are Dying of Hunger” “Empower/ Employ our Youths” “Settle The Trained Sea-Farers” as they chat songs with live band on standby as they song and block the entrance gate of the company.
But the while protest lasted SaharaReporters correspondents witnessed how a young man “hired” by company branded a pistol in the presence soldiers, policemen and civil defence Corp guiding the Agip threatened to shoot at protesters who shouted him down and he chased away but came reinforced and dispersed the crowd with dangerous weapons.
President of the indigenous Contractors of Association,Clement Adamnegbe said “We came for a peaceful protest, but to surprise Agip mobilise the host community here in the operational office to attack us with guns , bottles and some dangerous weapons and as I speak with you now some of members have been injured while lost their handsets and vehicles destroyed.”
“Most of our members are being for jobs completed in the last two years and we are asking for due payments, employment for our youths, sign MOUs with the host communities and they should implement the Nigerian Local Content Acts.”
