Diezanigate: Former And 2 Serving INEC Arraign Over Alleged N25m Bribery From Diezani

The Borno State High Court has ordered three staff of the Independent National Electoral  Commission (INEC) to be remanded in prison custody over allegations of criminal conspiracy and corrupt practices to the tune of #25,000,000 (millions).

EFCC told court that 13th of April, 2016, the Commission received an intelligence reports against Mrs. Diezani Alision Madueke and INEC staff alleging the offences of Criminal Conspiracy to procured benefit for public officers and corrupt receipt of monetary benefit.

It is discovered by the Commission that Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke warehouse the sum of $115,010,000 Two Hundreds and Forty Three Million, sixty seven thousands naira only (#243,067,000) with Fidelity Bank.

Investigation conducted into the case revealed a prima facie evidence that the accused persons received the sum of Two Hundreds and Forty Three Million, sixty seven thousands naira only, out of the aforementioned sum from Fidelity Bank shared among themselves and some INEC staff.

The accused persons Jummai Lawan Ibrahim, Kabiru Bello and Musa Buba Amshi were arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged receive monetary benefit under guise of INEC staff.

According to the charge sheet read to them when they all appeared before the court, that  trio were alleged engage themselves in criminal conspiracy to have received from aforementioned sum from Fidelity Bank #25,000,000 in sometimes March,2015 on account of the their official duties as INEC staff and they however pleaded not guilty to the six-count charged against them.

However, the court was told that Jummai Lawan Ibrahim a retired staff and two serving staff of the INEC did receive monetary benefit in Maiduguri Borno State.
Justice Umar Fadawu rejected oral application of the bail and adjourned the case to July 9 for hearing. He also ordered that the trio to be remanded in prison custody.
