An investigation by the Citizens United for Peace and Stability (CUPS) has uncovered a list of properties to an officer of the Nigeria Air Force.

As stated by the report, six posh buildings – including a hotel in South Africa – as well as a fleet of exotic cars have been traced to Bukar Abubakar, a Group Captain said to be serving in the Nigerian Air Force, and currently the Chief Logistics Officer, Operation Lafiya Dole, based in Maiduguri.

In the report compiled by Idris Ahmed, CUPS Founder, one Halliru Sa'ad Malami, is allegedly acting as a front for most of Abubakar’s businesses and construction works.

According to the report, addressed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abubakar is suspected to have committed “grand theft while he was serving as the Cahier at the Defence Headquarters”.

The list of properties as detailed in the report are: Castle De White House Hotel, located at 9, Kwato Road, Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna, which was originally intended to serve as residence for Abubakar and his family, but was converted to a hotel at the last minute to avoid suspicion; Shani Boutique Hotel, Pretoria, South Africa bought around 2012/2013; Shani Silver Star Ltd, Abuja, a company incorporated in 2009.

Others are: A property at 1, Coronation Crescent, Kaduna alleged to be worth over N1 billion; another property at 18, Ahmed Pategi Road, Kaduna, where Malami’s parents are allegedly staying, as well as another property at Wuse 2, Abuja, also alleged to be worth over N1 billion.

The report also revealed that “Bukar owns and drives several exotic cars such as Lexus, Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, etc., worth hundreds of millions of Naira, which are parked in his mansions. Most of the cars are hidden in his Abuja mansion. However, few of them are also kept in his mansions in Kaduna.”

Noting that “prior to his involvement with Bukar Abubakar, Malami had no history of running any credible successful business,” CUPS urged the EFCC “to investigate our revelations and prosecute the culprits according to the law”.

The organisation stated that the report is submitted “under the Whistleblower Reward Scheme”.
