The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of sensitive materials for Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

SaharaReporters crew reports that the materials are being distributed to the 30 Local Government Areas of the state in preparation for the election.

Distribution of the materials started after the commission took its delivery from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday evening.

There was heavy presence of security operatives as agents of various political parties participating in the election, local observers and senior officials of INEC monitored the distribution at the CBN office.

The materials, which are escorted by security agents, are being conveyed by white Toyota vans to the various local government areas.

Olusegun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, said the materials were thoroughly checked before they were dispatched.

Agbaje disclosed that the boxes containing the sensitive materials were arranged with their serial numbers and according to their local governments.

He explained that the commission was set to conduct a hitch-free governorship election in the state on Saturday.

"We have started the initial commencement of the distribution of the sensitive materials to the 30 local government areas of the state.

"We would ensure that the materials get to their destinations, and that this election is very free, fair, credible and peaceful and there would be no problem," he said.

Already, all roads leading to the INEC office have been cordoned off by armed security officers.
