The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered that all of its personnel must undergo a compulsory psychological test.

The order by Abdullahi Gana, NSCDC Commandant-General, came after the ill-fated incident in Gombe on Sunday, where an NSCDC personnel drove into the midst of some Boys Brigade on parade, killing 10 of them with many others left injured.

Passing the directives of the Commandant General through a statement released on Wednesday, Emmanuel Okeh, Corps Public Relations Officer stated that the test would also help to establish their physical stability and prevent a re-occurrence.

Okeh said: “The CG has directed the forensic psychology unit of the corps to work out the timetable for the security profiling and psychological test of all personnel of the corps against future occurrences.

“Apart from testing to re-examine the psychological and physical stability of personnel, the Corps will embark on massive training and retraining programmes for all personnel, irrespective of the cadre.”

Okeh described the incident as unfortunate while advising the people to remain calm.

“I regret the incident and ask that people be calm as I assure you that justice will prevail.

“This cannot be misconstrued to be a planned action. It is quite unfortunate.

A delegation of senior officers led by Dr Emmanuel Adeoye, Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Crisis Management, has been sent to Gombe.

They have been tasked to visit the church and the bereaved families.
