Groups Cry Out Over Increasing Kidnapping In Northern Nigeria

The groups in different press statements bemoaned the lack of ability by the Nigerian military to curb kidnapping and other crimes ravaging the country especially the Northern part.

The Gamai Unity and Development Organization (GUDO) and Hunters Association, groups based in Plateau and Taraba State respectively, have condemned the incessant spate of kidnapping in the country.

The groups in different press statements bemoaned the lack of ability by the Nigerian military to curb kidnapping and other crimes ravaging the country especially the Northern part.

Theodore Bala Maiyaki, President of GUDO described the situation as “unacceptable” and “ugly incidents” while calling on the government to declare war on all zone criminal activities are taking place in the country.

The group also charged Governor Simon Lalong to order security operatives to work more to curtail the spate of criminality in the state adding that, “traditional, community and religious leaders as well as youth and women groups to increase vigilance and ensure that they take charge of their communities.”

On his part, Mallam Suleiman Jibrin, Chairman of Hunters Association, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba state said insecurity should be a concern to every Nigerian.

He stated that his group is ready to work with the military to contribute their quota in tackling the menace.

“Many hunters are involved in the fight against Boko Haram and are ready to contribute in the fight against banditry and kidnappings,” he said.

According to him, hunters are always in the forest and could work alongside security personnel to fight insurgency and other crimes in the Northern region of the country.
