Army Releases 983 Cleared Boko Haram Suspects To Borno Government

"These 983 cleared Boko Haram suspects are being cleared of any wrongdoing, so we are handing them over to the Borno State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration.”

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday cleared 983 detainees suspected to be Boko Haram members and handed them over to the Borno State Government for proper reintegration into the society.

Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, disclosed this when handing over the cleared suspects at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He said, “Allow Abubarnawi and Shekau to die in the desert because their mission to establish a caliphate in Nigeria is impossible. Surrender your arms and repent to come back to society.

"These 983 cleared Boko Haram suspects are being cleared of any wrongdoing, so we are handing them over to the Borno State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration. 

“We are going to clear the remaining batch as soon as they are cleared by security operatives.”

Reacting, Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, thanked the military for their efforts in clearing the freed suspects.

He warned them not go back to their evil ways and urged them to be good ambassadors of the state and nation at large.

Zulum pledged to provide skill acquisition programme and reintegrate them to society.
