Court Postpones Sowore's Trial To Wednesday

The activist was first arrested on August 3, 2019 by the Department of State Services for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to demand a better country from the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the trial of the rights activist and journalist, Omoyele Sowore, to Wednesday, February 12, 2020, for commencement.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who admitted Sowore to bail on December 5, 2019, had the date moved to allow her conclude some cases in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The activist was first arrested on August 3, 2019 by the Department of State Services for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to demand a better country from the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A day after being released on bail, the DSS rearrested him on December 6, 2019 inside the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja, keeping him in detention until December 24 when we was finally released on bail.

The government is accusing him of abusing President Buhari and planning to bring down his regime.

Observers from around the world have described the charges a s baseless and demanded that they are dropped by the government.
