Rufus Akeju, Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Ondo, made the disclosure while speaking with SaharaReporters.

He explained that the new smart card readers were transferred from Oyo State office of INEC for the conduct of the election in Ondo.

He said, "The INEC office has taken delivery of fresh smart card readers in Ondo. They are over 6000 and were brought to Akure from Oyo State for the purpose of the October 10 election.

"We have to source the cards from other states in order not to stop the election from holding and it is the best decision that we have taken.

"I can assure our people that we are not going to have any problem in reconfiguring them for the purpose of the election."

The new delivery comes barely 12 days after over 5,000 smart cards kept in containers at the Ondo INEC office were gutted by fire.

The commission blamed power surge for the fire incident after its investigation.
