Utuama, a two-term deputy governor, served under the administration of the immediate past governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan between 2007 and 2015.

A political associate to the former deputy governor who confided in our correspondent said, "The news of the wife of the former deputy governor had broken out since last week but was kept secret from her husband who was already at the airport in Lagos to be flown abroad for an illness suspected to be partial stroke; it was done so as not to worsen his health condition.”

"The news was also kept from the public and the media so that it would not get to her husband as well because of his current health condition," the source added.

Meanwhile, the death of the wife of the former deputy governor has been confirmed in a statement signed by Ebikeme Clark, son of a former Minister of Information, Edwin Clark and Special Adviser to Delta state governor.
