DSS operatives on Sunday blocked all the roads leading to the court and prevented human and vehicular movements in the area.
Some lawyers have been denied access to the courtroom where the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is currently ongoing.
The lawyers, who assembled in front of the locked courtroom said it is wrong for a lawyer called to the bar, to be denied access to any hearing and that neither is it legal to request the ID card of a lawyer so as to ascertain their status.
One of the lawyers said, "As far as you have been called to the Nigerian Bar and there is a place for you to sit down, and the court is not jam-packed that you cannot have access to where you can sit, it is an open court, a lawyer does not need to show ID card or any other thing to show that he is a lawyer before he can enter.
“It is like asking a shop owner in the market to show a ID card. It doesn't make sense. I don't know how you people are seeing it."
Another lawyer was heard saying, “Can you people grant us access to this court?”
Meanwhile, a lawyer perceived to have come from the court room explained that the lawyers were being denied access due to COVID-19 protocols.
According to him, the majority of the seats were marked as 'Do not sit' for the sake of social distancing.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Government through the Federal High Court of Nigeria accredited only ten media organisations for the coverage of the trial of the IPOB leader.
Kanu, who was re-arrested in controversial circumstances in faraway Kenya, is facing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, illegal possession of arms, among others, before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Those accredited include Premium Times, Thisday, The Nation, The Herald, and Daily Independent newspapers.
Others include the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Channels Television, Africa Independent Television, and TVC.
