BREAKING: Lagos Building Collapse: Death Toll Hits 36 As Nine Rescued Alive

Police authorities have also vowed to punish those responsible for the collapse of the building.

No fewer than 36 persons have been confirmed dead at the site of the 21-storey building that collapsed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Monday, SaharaReporters has learnt. 

The rescue and emergency personnel have evacuated nine persons alive from the debris of the fallen building.

The survivors comprised eight males and one female, while the fatalities had three females and 33 males.

SaharaReporters had reported that a 21-storey building that collapsed on Monday at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi Lagos has attracted a lot of controversial issues even as the family and friends of the victims protested on Tuesday. 

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Minister of Works and former Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba have all visited the scene of the collapsed building. [story_link align="left"]100808[/story_link]

Sanwo-Olu has constituted a panel to look into the disaster and vowed to bring all those responsible to face the full extent of the law. 

Police authorities have also vowed to punish those responsible for the collapse of the building.
