Boko Haram Frees Yobe Government Official, One Other After Four Months In Captivity

Shehu, aka Lalle and his friend, identified only as Mustapha, were abducted on July 24 alongside two Nigerian soldiers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, near Jakana village which is a few kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Boko Haram insurgents have released two men, including a Yobe State government official, Ali Shehu who they kidnapped four months ago.

Shehu, aka Lalle and his friend, identified only as Mustapha, were abducted on July 24 alongside two Nigerian soldiers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, near Jakana village which is a few kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

He was reported to have left for Maiduguri from Government House, Damaturu in his official vehicle- Toyota Hilux conveying diesel for use in the liaison office due to prolonged power outage in Maiduguri metropolis.

The insurgents, however, publicly executed the two soldiers identified as Oyediran Adedotun and Bello Abubakar two days after.

There are indications that a heavy ransom was paid to secure the duo’s freedom.

Friends, family members and colleagues of the government official have been celebrating his release on social media since he was released.
