The police in Lagos have launched an investigation into the death of a pupil of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni.

Spokesperson for the police in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement disclosed that the case will be handled by Homicide Section of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department.

He said, "The command wishes to inform the public that, although no formal report of the incident was made to the police, the Commissioner of Police upon hearing about it instantly directed the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, under whose jurisdiction the place of incident is to immediately visit the school to carry out an initial investigation into the incident.

“This directive has been carried out as an investigation into the case has since commenced.

"However, in view of the seriousness of the case, the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, has also been directed to take over the investigation of the case immediately.”

On Wednesday, a social media user, @perrisoromoni, who is also a relation to the deceased, lamented the death of Oromoni allegedly beaten to death by fellow students for refusing to join a cult gang.

According to him, the deceased mentioned the names of five persons responsible for the assault on him before he eventually died on Tuesday.

On Friday, father of the late 12-year-old pupil said the students, who bullied his child, were once suspended temporarily by the school after they asked the boy to describe his sister's private part.

He went on to reveal that parents of the boys were making plans to fly them out of the country as public rage grew over the incident.

The Lagos State Government has since ordered the indefinite closure of the school over the matter.
