Abubakar was arrested around 8pm on Friday in the Ketu area shortly after using an unidentified object to threaten a motorist, and thereafter dispossessed him of N7000 while in traffic.

An 18-year-old teenager, identified as Sodiq Abubakar, has been arrested for the third time for traffic robbery in Lagos State by the officials of police Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Abubakar was arrested around 8pm on Friday in the Ketu area shortly after using an unidentified object to threaten a motorist, and thereafter dispossessed him of N7000 while in traffic.

The suspect confessed that he went into robbery again to raise funds to offset the debt he incurred after his release from prison four weeks ago.
Abubakar explained that he borrowed some money shortly after his release from the correctional centre to procure drugs. He noted that when his creditor became too persistent, he resorted to traffic robbery to raise money to offset the debt.
Abubakar stated that he worked with an accomplice identified as Ahmadu to threaten and smash the side glass of their victim if he failed to release the money in his pockets.
He added that their victim coughed up N7,000 which they shared immediately.
However, Abubakar pleaded for mercy, asserting that he was released from Correctional Centre four weeks ago after being arrested by officers of Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
He affirmed that he met Ahmadu at Otedola Bridge and they decided to rob in traffic.
Their victim had immediately alerted RRS officers close to the scene and arrested him not far from the spot while Ahmadu escaped.
"I was arrested in Ketu for traffic robbery on June 16, 2021 and I was sentenced to three-month imprisonment. On 19 September 2021, I was arrested again in Alapere for traffic robbery by RRS patrol team but was transferred to Alapere Divisional Police for prosecution.
"I was sentenced to some weeks in prison, I was released four weeks before his third arrest near Ojota Bridge," he said.
Meanwhile, he has been charged to court on the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
