Riot In Kano As Islamic Police, Hisbah Storm Sabon Gari To Make Arrests

Violence erupted on Tuesday evening when irate youths went on rampage at Sabon Gari area of Kano State.

Security sources told Daily Nigerian that the crisis began when officials of Hisbah went to make arrest at a red light district of Ballat Hughes Road.

“At the moment, I can’t tell you specifically what transpired between the Hisbah officials and the youth. All I can say is that the Hisbah operation went awry, and youth started attacking and burning places,” a security agent said.

Witnesses said there was stampede around Sabon Gari area as bonfires were set by hoodlums.

Some sources noted that some people were killed and many others injured in the clash.

The spokesman for Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, did not respond to our telephone calls.
