Police Arraign Five Residents In Zamfara Over Alleged Cannibalism

He remanded the accused persons to the correctional centre, while the minor among them was sent to a remand home.

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested five suspects on allegations of cannibalism.

The suspects, were on Tuesday, arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Gusau, the State capital.

The Police Prosecutor, Jaafar Muhammad informed the presiding Magistrate, Sa’adu Garba Gurbin, said the police had submitted their findings to the Director of Public Prosecution, (DPP) of the State Ministry of Justice, on 31st January, 2022.

He said the Magistrate Court had no jurisdiction in the case. He said the police further submitted the outcome of their investigation to the DPP for reassignment of the case to a court of competent jurisdiction for proper prosecution.

In the ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Sa’adu Gurbin, said the court had no jurisdiction.

He remanded the accused persons to the correctional centre, while the minor among them was sent to a remand home.

The case was adjourned to 15th March, 2022 for further mention.

One of the family members of the butchered late Ahmad, Sadiya Abdurahman Hafizi, could not control her emotions as she kept shouting in the court, demanding justice.

Last month, the Zamfara State Police Command arraigned the five suspects before the Chief Magistrate Court in Gusau, the state capital for Criminal Conspiracy, culpable homicide and cannibalism.

The suspects were charged for killing nine-year-old Ahmad Yakubu and for eating some parts of his body organs, such as intestine, eyes and throat.
