Reptiles Take Over Anambra State-owned Swimming Pool Project Worth N52million

The construction work started in the wake of the 12th edition of the biennial Police Games held in the state from February 29 to March 7, 2020.

For two years, the construction of a multi-million naira swimming pool at Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State, had yet to be completed.

The construction work started in the wake of the 12th edition of the biennial Police Games held in the state from February 29 to March 7, 2020.

Daily Trust reports that the swimming pool, which was supposed to help the state host the swimming athletes, has now become dry and taken over by snakes and other reptiles.

The pool, according to the report, was hurriedly put up to serve the police games.

However, due to the condition of the pool, the swimming competition was held for a day instead of two days.

Meanwhile, during the games, tankers were hired to fill the pool which was still at the tiling stage.

A recent visit to the pool, allegedly built at the cost of N52 million, shows that rather than completing the pool, the interlocking bricks are being removed.

A sportswriter in the state, Patrick Chimezie described the non-completion of the project as a monumental waste to the state resources.

He expressed worry over how the state embarked on such a wasteful venture when there was a place to have a swimming competition at Rojenny games village in Oba, Idemili South LGA of the state.
