His wife, Morenike Abeni Animashaun is the deputy governorship candidate for the SDP in the 2023 general elections.

Oba Kamoroudeen Animashaun, the Oloja of Epe in Lagos State has distanced himself from his wife's Deputy Governorship ticket on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

His wife, Morenike Abeni Animashaun is the deputy governorship candidate for the SDP in the 2023 general elections.

The monarch in a statement signed by him which was obtained by SaharaReporters, said his wife did not discuss her political ambitions with him or obtain his permission before contesting the party's primary election.

Animashaun further stated that as a member of the Lagos Traditional Council, he was expected to assist the current government in its efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to his people rather than engage in partisan politics.

His statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to the recent political activities of Olori Animashaun Morenike Abeni especially her affiliation with the Social Democratic party, SDP.

“I wish to aver for avoidance of doubt, that she has neither discussed with me her aspiration to the office of the Deputy Governor on the platform of the Social political party nor have I given her my consent to run for any elective office.

“While I recognize her right as an adult to participate in the political process and give expression to her political sympathy towards any party of her choice, I hasten to affirm that I have always been aware that as a reputable traditional ruler, I am expected to maintain neutrality in politics.

“Therefore, Olori Animashaun Morenike Abeni does not have my blessing and approval for her political activities. Consequently, members of the public are enjoined to discountenance any suggestion, innuendo, assumption or conclusion that she is engaging in this political gamble in cahoots with me.

“As a member of the Lagos State traditional council, my allegiance is to the government in power and not to any political party, much less a lack-luster one being used by Olori Animashaun Morenike Abeni and her co-travelers, who seem more interested in grabbing attention than making any impact in public service.”

The traditional chief, therefore, cautioned his allies against dealing with Animashaun regarding her political ambition.

“Let my teering subjects, friends and associates be wary of dealing with Olori Animashaun Morenike Abeni in respect of her current political circus show. She has unilaterally taken the decision to back the wrong horse without the support of the family.

“Perhaps it is not out of place to wish her well in this ill-advised political charade, even as I hope she will soon back off, if only as a mark of honour for my position as a revered traditional ruler,” the statement added.
