The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, has stated that he is "high" on justice, noting that if cannabis is legalised, he will probably not take it.
He made the disclosure on Friday, during a conversation themed “Cannabis: health or wealth”, on Twitter Space hosted by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Commenting during the space, on whether cannabis should be legalised or not, Sowore argued that beyond consumption, cannabis could also be used for the production of medicines, textiles and concrete.
He explained that the countries that legalised and decriminalised the growing of cannabis would come and impose their products upon Nigeria, stressing that Nigeria had some of the best products already.
“I do not consume cannabis. Never smoked cannabis in my life. Even if you legalise it, I’d probably not take it because I think I’m high on justice already. I don’t need to add any more substance to it,” Sowore said.
“I know all those countries that have legalised/decriminalised growing of cannabis will come and impose their products on Nigeria whereas Nigeria has some of the best products already,” he said.
In the build-up to the 2019 presidential poll, Sowore had said Nigeria would export marijuana if he was elected as president of the country.
He had argued that countries were making billions of dollars from the plant while Nigeria was lagging behind.
“We have to start taking care of our weed (Igbo), such that we can also contribute to the GDP of the world,” he had said.
“Some of the best weeds in the world are grown in Ekiti state. I’m very serious. People are making billions out of that particular plant that is very potent in Nigeria. We should be focusing on it.

“Our NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) should get the notice, memo in advance that Nigeria will be exporting weed to cure cancer in other parts of the world.”
In November 2018, most stores in Canada were reportedly struggling to meet the demand for cannabis, two weeks after the Canadian government approved it for recreational use.
