Kuzurawa is in the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano, Northwest Nigeria.

The Primary Healthcare Centre in Kazurawa community in Kano State is in a very terrible condition even though the state Primary Health Care Management Board in 2021 had over N3 billion budgeted to fix healthcare centres in deplorable conditions in the state.

Kuzurawa is in the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano, Northwest Nigeria.

The decrepitude of the healthcare centre that was serving thousands of Kazurawa dwellers was disclosed on Twitter by TrackaNG.

“ATTENTION!!!Dear @GovUmarGanduje. This is the TERRIBLE state of the PHC in Kazurawa community in Gaya LGA, Kano State, needs urgent government intervention. The only health facility that serves the community members and other settlements around,” TrackaNG wrote.

It was discovered that the health facility is the only one available to the residents of the community and its dismal status has hampered healthcare services to the residents.

According to Mawa Foundation, the Kano Ministry of Health in the same year got N30.720 billion, an amount meant to fix and address health issues in the state. The state in her first quarter 2021 budget performance report, says she has spent N2.899 billion. Meanwhile, the state Primary Health Care Management Board in 2021 got N3.021 billion budget approval for the rehabilitation and maintenance of Primary Healthcare facilities in the state.

However, despite the billions of naira earmarked for improvement of healthcare delivery in the state, it is unclear how the only healthcare facility in Kazurawa community was neglected.

In a related development, SaharaReporters reported in August how Kano residents lamented the unfortunate and terrible state of Primary Healthcare Centres in the state despite the government’s claim that it is doing great work in the health sector, especially in the area of Primary Healthcare delivery.

Beyond the outcry of residents of the state over the inadequacy of medical equipment and other challenges they face in accessing medical services in the state, which many times lead to death of women, a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has revealed that PHC facilities across the state are more of death zones rather than healing centres.

According to the report, most of the about 280 primary healthcare centres and health clinics which serve the residents of the 44 local government areas in the state not only lack medical equipment and materials, but the facilities are also in terrible condition, exposing patients and health workers to more health and life risks.

The report revealed that in some of the PHCs, some wards are so bad that they have been locked up and out of use for the past four years, while in some, many parts of the facilities had broken down and habited by rodents and dangerous reptiles.

A look at Yola Model Primary Healthcare Centre, Karaye Local Government Area, as a point of contact, showed that the right-hand side of the entrance of the centre collapsed a long time ago, making workers and patients to always keep to their left side to avoid hitting the collapsing right side of the building.
