As the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24 raged on, Kherson city which was captured by Russian troops was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in November during a Kyiv counter-offensive.

As the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24 raged on, Kherson city which was captured by Russian troops was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in November during a Kyiv counter-offensive.

But on Sunday, Kyiv Post quoted Governor Yaroslav Yanushevich, as saying, "The enemy again attacked the residential quarters of Kherson," adding that the Russian forces hit a maternity ward, a cafe and an apartment building on Saturday.

Yanushevich added that "Last night, two people were killed due to Russian shelling," and that five others had been wounded.

The governor said that the city was attacked with artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, tanks and mortars.

Kyiv Post reports that before their retreat in November, Russian forces destroyed the Kherson’s basic utilities infrastructure, and have since repeatedly shelled the city.

Also, spokesman for the regional administration, Sergiy Bratchuk, reportedly said on Sunday that in the Black Sea city of Odessa, emergency shutdowns were continuing following Russian drone attacks.

Authorities also said that "interruptions of water supply" had taken place due to power outages in some areas of the city.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, was said to have lamented on Saturday that more than 1.5 million people were left without power in the region of Odessa after Russia used Iranian drones to strike the city and its surrounding territory.

The city was said to be a favourite holiday destination for many Ukrainians and Russians before the Russian invasion on Ukraine.
